Summary

Basically an enhanced version of Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix, Gold Edition again plunges players into the world of bio-terrorism and global intrigue, but this time with the addition of all-new weapons, maps and game modes.

Like the first Soldier of Fortune game, the focus here is on realistic combat physics, with faithfully modelled weapons and some extremely accurate accompanying sound effects adding to the effect. There are also a number of real-life locations such as Prague, Colombia, Hong Kong and Kamchatka that feature as the settings for the missions. Most significant, however, is the new 'Ghoul 2' technology used to recreate some shockingly-realistic damage modelling, which sees characters reacting differently depending on which part of the body they are hit.

The player assumes the role of John Mullins, a military consultant working for a top-secret anti-terrorist organisation known as 'The Shop'. Following a simple VIP rescue in Prague, years later the thing has escalated and chemical warfare is threatening the world. It's here that John begins, sent to Colombia to find out what's going on whilst taking out anyone who stands in his way.

With a sub £20 price tag, Soldier of Fortune II: Gold is definitely a worthy purchase, especially if you're a newcomer to the series.
