Summary

Spanning eight huge, hazard-filled stages, Evolution Skateboarding takes the player from the neon-lit streets of Tokyo to catacombs deep beneath a European castle. Each environment is littered with ramps, rails and slopes and sets the player a series of objectives beyond anything previous skateboarding games have offered. This is further demonstrated when the game's vaunted 'Boss Skate Mode' comes into play.

For the first time in a skateboarding game, Evolution Skateboarding forces the player to use the 70 moves at their disposal to defeat a series of huge adversaries. These include giant spiders and runaway trucks, with the player using their board as a weapon to counter their threat. Successfully completing each level then unlocks the next, harder stage and reveals previously hidden items as an additional bonus.

Evolution Skateboarding also ups the ante further, with the addition of an extensive character creation centre. Using a simple menu system, players can design and customise their decks and riders, and also create signature combo moves for later use. Alternatively, the game has eight pro boarders on offer, including Danny Way, Arto Saari and Stevie Williams.

With its stunning visuals, 12-track soundtrack and split-screen two-player mode, Evolution Skateboarding is a stunning addition to the console skate park. A comprehensive replay mode allows users the chance to view their greatest moments from any angle and at different speeds - a perfect showcase for the skill and speed needed for the 'Boss Skate' mode.
