Summary
The bizarre and fantastical world of Oddworld is now available for the Game Boy Advance with the release of Munch's Oddysee. Developed by Art, the game closely follows the plot of the Xbox game, released alongside the console in March 2002, albeit in 2D, top-down style.
Following hero Abe's escape from Rupture Farms and subsequent saviour of the Mudokons in the first of the series, Abe's Oddysee, he now finds himself up against the relentless Glukkons once again - this time in a quest to bring down their latest venture, Evenwurst Weenerz Co. which is corrupting the protecting wind from Break Wind Hill and thus allowing Mudokons to be captured and enslaved. Fortunately for Abe, he's not alone and can now rely on the help of Munch, the last surviving member of the Gabbit species.
The game itself sees the two Oddworld inhabitants team up to teach the dirty rascals a lesson, using their chanting prowess to control the enemy, arming themselves with wacky weapons and acquiring power-ups for extra boosts. As the plot unfolds, the two characters find themselves in different situations and so players take control of either one, making best use of their respective abilities.
As is the general theme with Oddworld titles, throughout the game Abe regularly has to rely on help from his fellow Mudokons and is therefore blessed with the ability to communicate with them - exchanging pleasantries, issuing orders, etc. Munch, on the other hand, is amphibious and can also call upon the help of Fuzzles - a cute race of Furby look-alikes but with a ferocious nature.
Considering the host platform's capabilities, Munch's Oddysee is extremely faithful to the original Xbox game, featuring loads of imaginative characters, picturesque environments and thought-provoking puzzles, ultimately making for a great little portable adventure.
