Summary

Koei has finally gone and done it. For the first time two of its mammoth franchises – Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors – have come together in Warriors Orochi for a game that's suitably epic in scope.

Without any kind of warning, the evil Serpent King Orochi has descended from the skies. Not only is he unannounced, he's shattered time and space. Damned inconsiderate, really. He's gone and kidnapped the strongest, wisest and most courageous warriors from Ancient China and Feudal Japan to test his might against. Fortunately, in amongst the kidnapped are the heroes of Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors to sort things out.

The game boasts an impressive roster of some 77 playable characters from both series. It's the hack-'n-slash gameplay you've come to expect, but for the first time in one of Koei's tactical action games players can create their own three man tag team. Characters are all categorised according to their strengths (Power, Speed and Technique), so players will be able to mix and match to find the ultimate offensive combo, with Weapon Fusion allowing them to combine the attributes from different weapons for even greater effect.

There are two modes to play with. Story Mode is the core campaign, with players taking on the perspective of four factions: Shu, Wei, Wu and the Samurai Warriors. Once you've played through that, Free Mode will allow you to play through again with all the characters you've unlocked. Each faction sports eight regular missions and seven side missions, so when you throw in the hordes of enemies you have to fight, Warriors Orochi should give you plenty to go at.
