Summary

Wacky Races for the Sega Dreamcast is one game that has to be seen, to be believed. Using new ‘cell shading’ techniques Wacky Races actually looks like a cartoon. The edges of the polygons have black outlines giving the impression that they were hand drawn. When combined with colourful 3D cartoon backgrounds it becomes an interactive animated world.

What we have here is one fun and crazy racing game. You can pick from all of your favourite racers like Penelope Pitstop, Dick Dastardly, Muttley and The Ant Hill mob. The concept of the original 1968 cartoon was an action packed, all out comedy race to the finish. This idea translates so well into a video game and with up to four players simultaneously, this is serious fun.

Weapons and power-ups play a huge part in Wacky Races. Each character has unique attacking and defensive capabilities like missiles, speed boosts and shields. By collecting tokens during the race these abilities become ready to use and can have a profound effect on the outcome. It’s nice taking out the person in first just as they are about to cross the finish line.

By winning races you receive stars that can be used to open up new levels or purchase new abilities for your racer. There are plenty of secrets hidden within the game so it will take ages to unlock everything. Wacky Races is such an enjoyable multi-player experience, excellent in single player mode and most importantly, a great laugh.
